On April 21, a man approached the Ghazipur police station in east Delhi and reported that his 10-year-old daughter, who had gone to the market, had not returned. The Delhi Police immediately began the investigation and found a CCTV footage in which a juvenile was spotted taking the girl along with him. Police traced the juvenile to a madrasa at Neelmani colony in Ghaziabad the following night and nabbed him and rescued the minor girl. The medical examination of the girl revealed that she had been raped.
“The raid was successful since the minor and the maulvi were nabbed from a room,” Rakesh Singh, Inspector-in-charge of Sahibabad police station, was quoted as saying by news agency IANS . On April 23, the victim recorded her statement in front of a magistrate, stating that the juvenile had taken her to the madrasa to make her meet his friends. The next day, the case was transferred to the Crime Branch. The girl’s parents have claimed that the madrasa’s cleric was in the know of the fact that the minor was being held captive on the premises.
She said she was taken from Ghaziabad to Sahibabad Madrassa where she was held captive in a room. The Maulvi and his friends sexually assaulted her at first and then said to have raped her many times. She said her cries for help went unheard as classes would be held in the adjacent room. The room where she was held captive was used by Maulvi to relax between classes.
Cops found the survivor lying wrapped in a floor mat on the first floor of the madrassa during the rescue operation. The room in which she was locked up was used by the maulvi to rest between classes
In fact, the girl’s family recently blocked National Highway 24 and also held a candlelight march, calling for the arrest of the cleric. Political parties have jumped in the case with Delhi BJP MPs Manoj Tiwari and Maheish Girri meeting the family of the accused and demanding strict action against the accused under the amended POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act. “We demand stern action against the culprit irrespective of his age and the maulvi of the madrasa where the incident took place,” Tiwari told media. On Wednesday, BJP leaders, including Girri, held a candle march at India Gate in Delhi, demanding the arrest of the maulvi.
