New Delhi: Notwithstanding its poor show in the recent Assembly elections at Punjab and Goa, the Aam Aadmi Party has fully geared itself up for the elections to the three Municipal corporations, scheduled for April 23 and is hoping to put up a good show in these polls by banking on its work done in Delhi over the last two years. The results of the Assembly polls in Punjab and Goa may have come as a setback for the AAP, which was hoping to make a huge impact in these states but AAP remains upbeat about its chances in the MCD elections. AAP leaders feel that the party continues to enjoy a huge popularity among the people of Delhi, giving its clean image and its steps to make electricity and water in Delhi cheaper.
In fact, after its poor show in Punjab, AAP sees the coming polls to the MCD as a new challenge to prove its popularity and its draw among the people of Delhi, especially the poor and the middle class. Political observers say that one advantage that the AAP has over its adversaries is the fact that it had begun preparing for the MCD polls much in advance of the announcement of the elections. In this context, they say that AAP has already announced candidates for most of the 272 wards of the MCDs for which polls are to be held. After the results of the Assembly elections, the AAP has focussed all its efforts towards the MCD elections.
