Mumbai: Mumbaikars depending on app based ride sharing services for their daily commute will be facing a huge inconvenience as the driver partners of Ola and Uber have threatened to go on indefinite strike starting Monday, March 19.
Maharashtra Navnirman Vahtuk Sena, the transport wing of the Raj Thackeray-led MNS has called for the strike and is being supported by the thousands of driver partners, Union president Sanjay Naik was quoted as saying. Warning against any non-compliance, Naik said that if any cab is found on the roads post Sunday midnight, a polite request would be made with folded hands and if this does not work, he would be dealt with “MNS-style”.
He also added that the protest is to demand for better earnings and more monthly incentives as some of the drivers are surviving on the bare minimum. They also want security.
Although a few driver unions have opposed the protest, a majority of the drivers may stay off the roads out of fear of being attacked.
