Noida, Feb 2 Union Minister Mahesh Sharma today sought public support in helping the Noida administration curb pollution in the city and other issues faced by the residents.
He outlined transport, law and order, and pollution as major issues that require public support to be satisfactorily resolved.
Residents should become the administration’s “eyes and ears”, Sharma said adding that people should inform the police about suspicious movements in their area and also take steps to check pollution.
“Let us pledge to be vigilant and raise our voice about problems. It will solve the city’s problems as administration will become proactive on getting regular complaints,” the minister of state for culture and tourism said at NGY Infra Conclave here.
The Noida, Greater Noida, Yamuna Expressway (NGY) Infra Conclave is a platform for the residents of the tricity area of Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway to converge under one roof and discuss over the betterment of the city.
Sharma said if public representatives – MLAs, MPs and civic body officials – become responsive to complaints, it can curb shortcomings and deliver better amenities to residents.
He discussed the shortcomings in planning the Noida city, saying the General Post Office is located on a road that is only 12-metre wide. Though the city was set up in 1976, till date no proper site has been marked for garbage disposal, he said.
Sharma said he has taken up the issue of the development of Botanical Garden and starting a night safari there with the prime minister. “This project has been speeded up.”
With Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, he said, he has discussed a proposal for an elevated road connecting Noida Expressway with the DND flyway and Meerut Expressway.
Noida MLA Pankaj Singh said the city administration has been asked to become more responsive to public grievances.
Singh said the Uttar Pradesh government has passed an order, through which it can transfer Noida and Greater Noida authority employees to other development authorities.
He said this will help in checking corruption.
The transfer of the employees was previously limited to within the authority.
