She broke the taboos and joined Indian Cinema way back in 1913. DadasahebPhalke offered his second film, MohiniBhasmasur to Kamat. She played the role of a leading lady, Parvati in the film. Her portrayal evoked lot of positive reactions from the audience and paved way for other female actresses to join Indian Cinema as a full fledged career.
She was honored with INDIAN WOMEN ACHIEVERS AWARD by the President of India on January 20, 2018 at New Delhi.
