She holds the title of being the very first Indian woman to visit the farthest corner of the world, the Antarctica. She is an oceanographer who made the nation proud by being the first woman to set the foot on the icy terrains of the Antarctica. A book titled ‘The Open Sea’ by Alister Hardy had motivated her and she decided to take up oceanography as her career. She has been given Antarctica Award for being a part of the expedition.
She was honored with INDIAN WOMEN ACHIEVERS AWARD by the President of India on January 20, 2018 at New Delhi.
