She has her roots in Balali village in Bhiwani District, Haryana. GeetaPhogat is an iconic freestyle wrestler who won India’s first ever gold medal in wrestling at the Commonwealth Games in 2010. Her father Mahavir Singh Phogat, a former wrestler is her coach. She also won a bronze medal at the world championships (2012). Her life journey is well depicted in a movie, title ‘Dangal’.
She was honored with INDIAN WOMEN ACHIEVERS AWARD by the President of India on January 20, 2018 at New Delhi.
