New Delhi, Jan 8: The Delhi Police have denied permission for the January 9 ‘Yuva Hunkaar Rally’ in the national capital that was to be attended by Dalit leader and Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani. Mevani had said that he would hold ‘Yuva Hunkaar Rally’ on January 9 and “go to the PMO with the Manusmriti and the Constitution and ask him to choose between the two”.
However, in view of security arrangements in the national capital ahead of January 26, Republic Day parade, Delhi Police have refused to grant him permission for the rally. The police have also said that legal action will be taken if Mevani and others still go ahead with the rally.
Earlier last week too, the Mumbai Police had cancelled a students programme in Vile Parle which was to be attended by Mevani and JNU student leader Umar Khalid. Both the leaders were accused of making controversial speeches in Bhima Koregaon, which allegedly led to the violence.
