New Delhi, Dec 21: A Delhi court on Thursday acquitted all those named in the 2G scam including former telecom minister A Raja and DMK Leader Kanimozhi. All accused were asked to be present in court for the verdict today. The verdict comes six years after the first arrest was made by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Rs 1.76 lakh crore 2G spectrum scam in 2011.
The scam relates to the allocation of 2G spectrum licence in 2007-08. According to a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report of 2010, the scam caused a loss of Rs 1.76 lakh crore to the exchequer. The report said that 2G spectrum was given away at throwaway prices and there was no free and fair allocation.
Among those named accused in the scam were former telecom minister A Raja and DMK leader Kanimozhi, who were arrested and later released on bail. Former telecom secretary Sidharth Behura was also among those accused while some corporate giants like Unitech chief Sanjay Chandra and DB Realty founder Vinod Goenka were also on the list.
