Mumbai, Dec 18: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the Assembly Elections 2017 in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh even as Congress leaders, that lost both the states, flashed smiles on Television news channels. The BJP won 44 seats in Himachal Pradesh, as was expected. In Gujarat, however, the BJP was restricted below 100 to just 99 seats, failing exit polls that had predicted over 105 and some even 135 seats for the party.
However, like BJP leader and I&B Minister Smriti Irani put it, “Jo Jeeta Vahi Sikander” is what the party followed and said that the two states have chosen Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Vikas’ (development) model. BJP President Amit Shah rejected the “tough fight” claims, saying the victory margin in Gujarat was more and gave a clear mandate to the ruling party. Amit Shah called it the victory of development and the loss of ‘nepotism’.
