New Delhi, Dec 13: Students who wish to pursue PhD at Jawaharlal Nehru University will now have to sit for a separate entrance exam meant for the course as the varsity has decided to to do away with its integrated M.Phil/PhD course that it offered. Previously, the aspiring doctorate students used to get admission to the course at the JNU on achieving the percentage needed for passing. From now onwards, they will have to clear entrance examination to get admission.
“The new University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations allow even MA (postgraduate) students to compete for the PhD programme directly. Now, MA and MPhil students, from across the country, can apply for the JNU’s prestigious doctorate programme,” I Chintamani Mahapatra, the JNU rector, told news agency PTI.
