Jaipur, Dec 14: Rajasthan police on Thursday said they have discovered a bank account where 516 people from across the nation donated three lakh rupees to aid the family of the prime accused in murder of a man alleging ‘love-jihad’. The police reportedly froze the account which was in the name of the wife of Shambhulal Regar. Regar recently hacked and burnt to death a man and released the video along with communal banters. He was arrested by the police soon after the incident, but since then, he has gained particular following, with the recent being this bank account seeking donations.
The police said they found that the money came in from almost all states of the country. They also said around 3 lakh rupees was deposited before the account was frozen and they have launched an investigation to find out the depositors and their links with Regar, if any.
According to The Indian Express, the police have also arrested two businessmen for circulating receipts on social media where they acknowledged they donated in the account. Identified as Prakash Singh and Dinesh Singh, both the businessmen were arrested under Section 151 CrPC (preventive custody). The duo circulated pictures of their receipts on social media after depositing the money. When they were summoned to the police station in this connection, they allegedly misbehaved with the police.
