Four-year-old girl killed as house catches fire in Rohini

New Delhi, Aug 14 (PTI) A four-year-old girl was killed early today after a fire broke out in her house in Buddh Vihar area of Rohini, the fire department said.

The fire started in the house around 3.15 AM and engulfed two floors of the building, and a utensils shop on the ground floor, a Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official said.

Three fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the fire was doused around 5 AM.

After the fire tenders rescued members of a family from the blaze, it was found that a girl named Babli, was still stuck inside the house.

She was pulled out from the blaze in an unconscious condition and rushed to a hospital where doctors declared here “brought dead”, the police said.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, they added.

In another incident, a fire broke out at a cloth godown in southeast Delhi’s Tughlakabad area around 1 PM.

Eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the fire was dooused around 5 PM, the DFS official said.

8 Delhi Fire Service personnel get gallantry award

New Delhi, Aug 14 (PTI) Four personnel of the Delhi Fire Service, who died during rescue operations, were among the eight awarded gallantry medals today.

On the eve of Independence Day, President Ram Nath Kovind approved a total of 12 awards for fire fighters of the Delhi Fire Service (DFS).

“Delhi Fire Service is awarded 8 Gallantry awards & 4 distinguished service awards by President. We are proud of Delhi Fire Service(sic),” Delhi Home Minister Satyendar Jain tweeted.

The four fire fighters — Sunil Kumar, Manjeet Singh, Hari Singh Meena and Hari Om — have been given the President’s Fire Service Medal for gallantry (posthumous).

Meena and Hari Om died when they were trapped in a fire caused by an explosion of LPG cylinder in West Delhi’s Vikaspuri area in February this year.

Kumar and Singh died while fighting fire at a plastic factory in Outer Delhi’s Narela area.

Among the four others who were given fire service medal for gallantry were Anoop Singh, Tej Pal, Naveen and Revinder Kumar.

Besides, Vipin Kental has been awarded for distinguished service and Rajbir Singh, Harish Chand and Rajesh Kumar for meritorious service.

70 Kashmiri youths join terrorist ranks in seven months: Report

Seventy young men have joined militancy in the past seven months this year with most of the recruits from three districts in south Kashmir, according to a senior official.

The new recruits mostly belong to Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam districts in south Kashmir, which has become the hub of tech-savvy terrorists.

“As many as 70 Kashmiri youths joined militancy in the Valley in seven months period this year,” the senior security officer told .

The officer claimed 88 Kashmiri youths joined militancy in 2016.

Since 2014, there has been a constant rise in the number of people joining militancy.

As many as 66 youths joined militancy in Kashmir in 2015 and 53 in 2014, according to data compiled by security agencies.

In 2010, 54 youths joined militancy and in 2011, the number came down to 23. It further dipped to 21 in 2012 and 16 in 2013, it said.
