PM 10 Down But Dangerous, Stay Indoors For 2 More Days: IMA to Delhi Residents

New Delhi, Nov 8: The pollution level in Delhi came down from what it was on Tuesday even as dense smog continued to engulfed the national capital on Wednesday. The Indian Medical Association advised people to stay indoors for another couple of days as pollution level remained dangerous. They are expecting the situation to get better after that.

“PM 10 is still at a dangerous level, but it is lesser than yesterday. Precautions are recommended for 2 more days. Try to stay indoors, do not go out for exercise or walks,” Indian Medical Association President Dr KK Aggarwal said.

The situation in Delhi NCR remained worrisome as the level of the harmful PM (Particulate Matter) 2.5 was above 300 in all parts of Delhi. It was above 600 in many areas like Punjabi Bagh, where PM 10 was also above 800. At Indira Gandhi Airport, PM 2.5 was recorded at 355. These numbers indicate Delhi’s pollution level at severe and hazardous.

Some Schools shut in Delhi

Primary schools in Delhi were shut on the directive of the Arvind Kejriwal government. The Delhi government will today decide whether the holiday will be extended till tomorrow. Schools have also been asked to not carry out any outdoor activities or morning assemblies in the open till further instructions.

Various schools in the National Capital Region were also shut with pollution level being at dangerous levels. Many schools in Ghaziabad were shut for 2 days due to pollution and smog. Trains, Flights Delayed

Visibility on Wednesday went down to as low as 50-70 metres in some areas. There were lesser vehicles on the road as commuters chose not to drive since the thick smog reduced visibility.

Reports say trains to and from Delhi were facing delays due to low visibility on tracks. Some trains were also reportedly diverted. Some flights to and from Delhi were also delayed reportedly with visibility dipping at the IGI Airport.
