Govt Increases Monthly Grant to 5,000 Schools Ahead of Gujarat Polls

Ahmedabad, Oct 31: The Gujarat government on Monday increased monthly grant to schools ahead of the Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017. The monthly grant has been increased under all the three categories based on the number of classes for over 5000 schools. This monthly grant increase is fourth in last four years. The last revision to the grants was made in 2013.

The notification dated October 23 stated that an increase from 20 to 25 per cent has been granted to over 5000 schools. Schools with classes from I to V will be provided a grant of Rs 3,000, which was Rs 2,400 earlier. The schools in the second category will get Rs 2,500 instead of Rs 2,000 and schools with more than 30 classes will get Rs 250 extra as a monthly grant.

In early October, the Gujarat government had announced a slew of sops for teachers, employees of municipalities and others. The state government announced that a significant hike to 7000 teachers of government-aided Secondary and Higher Secondary schools with “fixed salary”.

“We have decided to increase the monthly salary of ‘fixed-pay’ teachers of Secondary schools from Rs 16,500 to Rs 25,000. Assistant teachers, who are getting Rs 10,500, will now get Rs 16,224,” announced Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel. Revised salaries according to the provisions of the 7th Pay Commission were announced for the employees of as many as 105 municipalities.

The Gujarat government also raised the annual income cap from Rs 1.50 lakh to Rs 2.50 lakh for free medical treatment of up to Rs 2 lakh.
