20-year-old Man Suffering From Leprosy Immolates Self at India Gate

New Delhi, Oct 18: A 20-year-old man immolated himself on Tuesday near Delhi’s iconic India Gate. The man was suffering from leprosy and was reportedly depressed. He was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital by a PCR van. Doctors have informed that he has suffered 80 per cent burns and is in critical condition.

Times of India reported that police recovered a suicide note from his bag in which he blamed his neighbour for his depression. The incident occurred at 3:45 pm on Tuesday. The youth was standing near the Coast Guard headquarters when he poured petrol on himself and set himself on fire.

When the police reached the spot in a PCR van, he was already on fire. Officers tried to rescue him using blankets and water. However, he had sustained severe injuries by the time the officers doused the fire. He was kept in the intensive care unit of the hospital.

The youth lived in a colony in Tahirpur. He was upset with the behaviour of a neighbour.
