CMSE Exam Pattern Changed For 2018; No General Ability Paper

New Delhi, Oct 3: The Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) on Tuesday announced that from next year, the Combined Medical Services Exam (CMSE) will be conducted without the ‘General Ability Paper’. It also notified about the changes in the pattern and syllabus for the exam. Candidates can look out for details about the exam on the official website – upsc.gov.in.

The UPSC notified on its official website that these changes will be made effective from CMSE 2018. Both Paper 1 and Paper 2 will be computer-based exams and will be carried for two hours. The paper pattern will be like MBBS standard where objective type questions will be asked.

Paper 1 – The part 1 of the exam will have 120 questions, 96 will be from General Medicine while 24 from Paediatrics.

Paper 2 – There are no major changes in the pattern of part 2 of the exam. Paper 2 will be of 250 questions and have 40 each question from Surgery, Gynaecology & Obstetrics and preventive and social medicine. (ALSO READ: Students Are Confused Over New CET Exam Pattern)

The exam will have negative marking for each wrong answer. Candidates passing the computer-based exam will be allowed to give Interview/Personality Test. It will be conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. The test carries 100 marks and is based on general knowledge and the understanding of the candidates in the fields of their academic study. This test will also help in assessing the personality of candidates such as their intellectual curiosity and character integrity.
