Polling Underway For JNUSU Polls, Result on Sept 11

New Delhi, September 8: Polling for the Jawahar Lal University (JNU) student union election is underway in the university campus. The results for the student union– that has become an ideological battle ground between Left and Right– will be announced on September 11. Traditionally, a Marxist fiefdom, JNU has seen a surge in right wing politics in last few years. Votes are cast at four centres. Around 8,000 voters will exercise their right.

The mysterious disappearance of a student– Najeeb Ahmed– resonated in this election as both the Left and the ABVP traded barbs at each other at the debate before the Election Day. BJP’s student wing, Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthee Parishad (ABVP) leaders said that the party will contest the election on genuine issues like seat cuts and the lack of a hospital in the university campus.

The ABVP leaders also said that the Left-wing student leaders were more interested in what was happening outside, but they neglected the university. They alleged that there was an illegal presence of Left-wingers on the campus. They also said the Left tries to give a political colour to every issue.
