#GST, Demonetisation to Feature in #NCERT Textbooks From Next Academic Year

New Delhi, Aug 4: Come next academic year, the NCERT textbooks with have lessons in Goods and Services Tax (GST) and demonetisation. The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) on Thursday decided to incorporate content on GST and demonetisation in the reprint editions of economics, business studies, accountancy and political science books from 2018, as per the reports.

“NCERT has decided to incorporate the contents related to GST and demonetisation in existing chapters of subjects, such as economics, business studies, accountancy, and political science, while bringing out the reprint editions of their textbooks for the academic year 2018-19,” minister of state for HRD Upendra Kushwaha told the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

Schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) such as Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, among others, follow NCERT curriculum. A number of other states, including Uttar Pradesh, too have decided to follow it and from next academic year, the students will have to learn lessons on demonetisation, which annulled 86 per cent of India’s currency in just a matter of few hours, and GST, the biggest tax reform since independence.

“Note ban is something that the textbooks don’t carry at present. But this is something that students have to be taught,” a senior NCERT official said.
