Aadhaar-PAN Linking Can be Done by Just Sending an SMS From Your Mobile Phone

New Delhi, July 11: It can’t be simpler–now you can link your PAN card with Aadhaar card by just sending an SMS from your mobile phone to an authorised number. Minister of Information and Technology, Ravi Shankar Prasad informed about this new service on his Twitter account. He also attached a poster with his tweet, explaining how Aadhaar-PAN linking can be done through SMS.

Linking Aadhaar card and PAN card has been made compulsory by the government and Supreme Court has not stopped the government from doing that. It is advisable to do that. And it is too simple to link Aadhaar number with PAN. There is a traditional way to do it: by logging on to: www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in and furnishing the PAN and Aadhar details. However, the new SMS-based system is simpler. Here are the three steps that are needed.

  • Message:

UIAPAN

<Space>

<Aadhaar number>

<Space><Pan Number>

  • Send to: 567678
  • Or send to: 56161
  • Send from registered mobile number

It was being widely circulated that the PAN card would go invalid if it is not linked with Aadhaar. The Supreme Court had intervened and said that no cancelling of PAN could be allowed. However, it said the government had the right to frame such laws and make Aadhaar card mandatory. Though the deadline was July 1, the government has given additional time to people to link the two cards. (Also read: PAN Not to be Cancelled if Not Linked With Aadhaar: Watch Video Tutorial)

Aadhar-PAN linking can also be done using the income tax website. Just log on to Incometaxefiling.gov.in and click on the blinking icon. A form page will open. Just fill in your Aadhaar Card number, the PAN number, the name on Aadhaar card, captcha code and press the linking button.
