An inquiry committee appointed by the Jawaharlal Nehru University has upheld the punishments recommended for students Umar Khalid and Kanhaiya Kumar in connection with the 2016 event protesting against Afzal Guru’s execution. A JNU panel had in 2016 recommended rusticating Khalid and imposing a fine of 10,000 on Kanhaiya. During the event, anti-national slogans had allegedly been raised.
