Sensex Surges Over 400 Points; Nifty Above 10,800 On Good Monsoon Hopes

The S&P BSE Sensex surged over 400 points on Thursday and was trading firmly above the 35,550 level on hopes of good monsoon rains. At 1 pm, the Sensex was up 403.12 points or 1.15 per cent higher at 35,582 level while the broader Nifty50 was at 10,803.05, up 118.40 points or 1.11 per cent. The gains in the 50-share Nifty50 pack of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) were led by Vedanta (up 3.49 per cent), Tata Steel (up 3.36 per cent), Axis Bank (up 3.22 per cent), ICICI Bank (up 2.71 per cent), and Tata Motors (up 2.28 per cent). Forty two out of 50 stocks in the Nifty50 index advanced. At the intra-day high, the Sensex was at 35,584.78 level as it surged 405.9 points over Wednesday’s close of 35,178.88 points.
