Dalit Teen Alleged To Be Assaulted By Excise Officers

Kollam: A 15 year old dalit teen named Sumesh was assaulted by 4 excise officers from Ezhukone in Kollam. The act took place at Paripalli, where Sumesh worked as a laborer. The excise team were in search of people related to some ganja case. They found Sumesh near a bakery in a suspicious manner. Sumesh was with his relative at this spot. So, they took him in their vehicle asking the relative to leave.

Sumesh has complained that he was taken into custody and beaten up very badly. Excise inspector head Tony Jose said that the excise team was in search of a second accused in the case of 1.5kg ganja seized from Ezhukone. Assistant excise Commissioner PK Sanu denied that Sumesh was not taken into custody or escorted to the excise office. The complaint by Sumesh first said that he was caught by police. But CCTV footages of the nearby shops from where he was caught made it clear that it was the excise officers. Some of the officers were not in uniform. He was left on the raod after he was badly hit by them.

The alleged accused have denied the assault done to the victim. The victim was taken by his relative to a nearby hospital and then shifted to Trivandrum Medical college.
