Apple Confirms Old iPhones Models Take a Hit in Performances With Newer Versions Introduced

New Delhi, December 21: Tech giant Apple has admitted it might be slowing down old iPhones that have low capacity batteries. The company said it does intentionally smooth out the performance of its iPhones when a battery gets too old.  Reddit users have noticed that the processing power of older iPhone models is limited once battery life begins to suffer which leads to low performance. As per reports, many users claimed it was an attempt to force users to upgrade to the latest model. However, some Reddit users said that replacing their batteries has returned performance and CPU clock speeds back to normal.

According to a report by The Verge, Geekbench developer John Poole has mapped outperformance for iPhone 6S and iPhone 7 over time. Poole has concluded that Apple’s iOS 10.2.1 and 11.2.0 updates introduce this throttling for various devices. Moreover, iOS 10.2.1 is particularly relevant, as the update was designed to reduce random shutdown issues for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S. Apple’s fix appears to be throttling the CPU to prevent the phone from randomly shutting down. Geekbench reports that iOS 11.2.0 introduces similar throttling for iPhone 7 units with older batteries.
