Delhi HC Asks AAP Govt to Ensure Admission For All in Govt Schools

New Delhi, Dec 12: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday asked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government to take steps and ensure that children, especially from the age group of 6-14, get admission in government schools in Kapashera area, South Delhi. The HC wants to make sure that the students are not deprived of their right to education.

The High Court bench was constituted by Justice Gita Mittal, Acting CJ, and Justice C Hari Shankar. The direction came in response to a PIL, filed by parents of 35 students who were refused admission, regarding the issue from the area. The PIL stated that the children were denied admission in schools in the area.

The PIL stated: “The Delhi government schools have kept them out on the ground of non-production of residence proof, original transfer certificate and report cards. Some other reasons were, not having a bank account and age-related problems. Another lame excuse was that the last date of admission was 31st of July.”

The bench also directed that students under the age of 18 and are differently capable also to be admitted in schools.

Delhi government counsel Naushad Ahmed Khan told the court that they were always ready to give education to the children. On the contrary, the petitioners, during the hearing, said that no necessary steps had been taken by the government on this matter.
