#BHU Asks Political Science Students to Write Eassy on BJP, Short Note on AAP

New Delhi, Dec 12: Post-graduate political science students of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) were asked to write a 15 marks essay on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for their paper on Indian Political System: Theoretical and Cultural Aspects in the first semester exams. A two marks short question on Aam Admi Party (AAP) was also part of the question paper. The exam was conducted on December 5

“Political parties are part of the MA previous year (first year) syllabus. So, the two questions were incorporated in the question paper. Examination for the paper already took place. No student had any objection to it,” Prof Kaushal Kishore Mishra, as reported by Hindustan Times, said.

Some students echoed similar views and said the questions were easy as both BJP and AAP are known to everyone. “The questions were very easy. Everyone knows AAP is a political party. As far as question number 6 is concerned, writing an essay on BJP was also equally easy. The party is in power at the Centre and in the state. Really, the queries amused me,” one of the BHU students was quoted as saying.

However, some raised doubts over the timing of the question related to the BJP when Assembly elections are being held in Gujarat. “It is true that the political parties are part of our syllabus, but asking about BJP at this point when Gujarat is going to poll, exposes the mindset of the question setter,” another student was quoted as saying.

This is not the first time when the BHU administration included questions related to some ongoing political development. Recently, the varsity asked questions on the nature of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in Kautilya’s times to its political science students.
