I Want Freedom, Hadiya Tells Supreme Court

New Delhi, Nov 27: Kerala woman, Hadiya, who appeared before Supreme Court on Monday, said that she wanted to live with her husband, Shafin Jahan.  She said that she wanted her husband to be her guardian if she was sent to her college to complete her education. The court, however, appointed the college dean to be her guardian and directed Tamil Nadu government to provide her security until she finished her medical internship.

Hadiya, who is in the center of the love jihad controversy, said she was held in unlawful custody for the last 11 months. She said she wanted to be a good citizen and a doctor, but to be true to her faith. She said she didn’t want to continue her education on state’s expense. She said she wanted her husband to be her guardian.

“Do you want to continue your studies on state’s expense? asks the Chief Justice of India. Hadiya replied, “I want to but not on state’s expense when my husband can take care of me.”

After hearing the woman, the apex court directed that Hadiya be taken to college for her studies and the college should allow her the facility of college hostel to her. The court has deferred the hearing until the third week of January.
