Nobody Forced me to Convert to Islam And I Want to Live With my Husband, Says Hadiya

New Delhi, Nov 25: Hadiya, a homoeopathic doctor who converted to Islam after her marriage, on Saturday claimed that nobody forced her for conversion. In a major drama at Cochin Airport, Hadiya shouted at media persons and said she wishes to live with her husband Shafin Jahan. Presently, she is living with her parents after the Kerala High Court declared their marriage ‘null and void’.

Earlier in the day, her husband Shafin Jahan alleged that her family was making attempts to reconvert her to Hinduism. Her family had alleged she became a victim to ‘love jihad’

NCW refuted torture by parents

The reports regarding torture were refuted by the National Commission For Women. “I just met Hadiya as the NCW was concerned about her well-being. She is in good health, is not being beaten up, she is eating, was smiling and is happy,” Acting Chairperson of the Commission, Rekha Sharma, who met Hadiya at her home in TV Puram in Kottayam’s Vaikkom, told media.

Four months ago, the Kerala High Court had sent Hadiya, 24, with her parents- K M Asokan and Ponnamma-after annulling her marriage to Shafin Jahan. The case is under consideration of the Supreme Court now, which had ordered the NIA investigation into it.

Supreme Court’s observation ‘Consent is Prime’

On October 31, the Supreme Court had observed that the consent of the girl is prime in the Kerala ‘love jihad’ case, adding that she is a major. The top court also asked the father to produce Hadiya on November 27, the next date of hearing in the case.

Hadiya’s father had said that he welcomes the decision to produce his daughter before the court on November 27. “I welcome the order of Supreme Court. I will produce Hadiya before the court on November 27. I don’t have any objection on my daughter marrying a man from other religion. But this is not a love marriage. The news that Hadiya is under house arrest is not correct. Two female police officers are with her 24×7,” Hadiya’s father said.
