Ambedkar statue vandalised in UP

Ballia (UP), Apr 7  A statue of B R Ambedkar was vandalised in Thedwari village in the Nagra area here today, police said.

Right hand, leg and head of the statue was found damaged this morning, Nagra police station in-charge Ram Dinesh Tewari said.

DySP Avdhesh Chaudhary reached the spot and pacified the people who were agitated over the incident, police said.

Additional force has been deployed in the area to maintain law and order, they said, adding a case has been registered against unknown persons.

Similar incidents of vandalism were reported earlier in Firozabad, Etah, Siddhartnagar and Allahabad districts in Uttar Pradesh. Following these incidents, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had issued directives to the district magistrates and police officials to take steps for ensuring security of the statues installed in their respective districts.

Asaram rape case: Jodhpur Court to pronounce verdict on April 25

Jodhpur : The Jodhpur Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe Court on Saturday completed its hearing in the rape case against self-styled Godman Asaram Bapu and will pronounce its verdict on April 25.

Two sexual assault cases were filed one in Rajasthan and the other in Gujarat against Asaram, who is currently lodged in the Jodhpur Central jail.

In the case registered in Rajasthan, a teenage girl had accused Asaram of sexual assault at his ashram in Manai village near Jodhpur.

While in Gujarat, the two Surat-based sisters had lodged separate complaints against the self-styled Godman and his son Narayan Sai, accusing them of rape.

The Jodhpur Police arrested Asaram on August 3, 2013, and since then, he is in prison. (ANI)
