Delhi Air Pollution: NHRC, NGT, HC Express Concerns; Arvind Kejriwal Says Time to Keep Politics Aside and Work Together

New Delhi, Nov 9: After Delhi High Court, National Green Tribunal (NGT) and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) expressed concern over the worsening quality of air in Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asked political parties to keep aside politics and work together. Speaking at an event, Arvind Kejriwal said the Centre and state governments of Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh should come together to control pollution in the national capital and neighbouring states.

“If everyone from central government to Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana government come together and put aside politics, a solution can be found,” said Arvind Kejriwal. The Delhi Chief Minister also said the decision on odd-even formula will be taken by today or tomorrow if the situation demands. While Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is in power in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana are ruled by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Punjab is under Congress rule.

It came after the Delhi High Court, NGT and NHRC rapped the Centre, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh government for not taking serious efforts to control the rising air pollution in the national capital. The NHRC called the situation in Delhi alarming and issued a notice to the Centre and government of Punjab and Haryana on their action plan to tackle stubble burning which mainly causes thick toxic smog in the national capital.

The NGT on Thursday lashed out at AAP government in Delhi, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and neighbouring states for snatching ‘right to life’ from people by not taking enough measures to control air pollution in the national capital. The tribunal banned construction and industrial activities in Delhi-NCR till November 14 and said no trucks from outside or within Delhi will be permitted to transport any construction material.

Smog in Delhi: HC Asks Govt to Consider Implementing Odd-Even Scheme, Orders Emergency Meet

New Delhi, Nov 9: The Delhi High Court on Thursday directed Union Ministry of Environment and Forest & Climate Change secretary to call an emergency meeting within three days with Chief Secretaries of states falling under the National Capital Region (NCR) and pollution control agencies to discuss measures to curb pollution. It also ordered the authorities to consider possibility of cloud seeding as a measure to control pollution.

The court also raised questions on the decision of increasing parking fees by four times to control pollution. Further, while observing that the odd-even scheme last year had unclogged Delhi roads, the High Court asked the Delhi government to consider implementing “odd even vehicle movement scheme” as a short term measure.

Meanwhile, acting tough over the issue of deteriorating air quality in Delhi, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) banned the industrial activities in the national capital till the next hearing. The Tribunal also directed deputation of an officer, by all the public authorities, to monitor the activities resulting into pollution.

While hearing a plea filed by advocate Sanjay Upadhyay, the NGT bench asked the Delhi government, Municipal Corporation of Delhi and government of neighbouring states to see the pitiable condition of people in hospitals and the way their lives are being played with. “Right to life is being snatched from people since they’re not getting a clean environment,” said the NGT.

Quoting Articles 21 and 48 of the Constitution, the NGT said that it is the responsibility of governments to make sure that citizens get a clean and conducive environment. “Even construction work taking place openly isn’t being stopped, and when such a situation has ensued now action is being promised,” the NGT added.

Coming down heavily on the AAP government, the NGT asked for the details about the steps taken to curtail pollution, the number of challans issued to violators and the number of construction sites where work has been stopped. It even questioned the government as to why rain isn’t artificially being triggered using helicopters. It also directed that vehicles more than 10 years, in case of diesel and 15 years in case of petrol, should be prohibited to enter Delhi.

What Arvind Kejriwal Says?

Addressing the media on Thursday, the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the odd-even formula will be brought into effect by today or tomorrow, if the need arises. He also said that the pollution levels will continue to rise until state governments do not find an economically viable solutions to crop burning. “For a month (from mid Oct to mid Nov) the whole northern India becomes a gas chamber, not just Delhi,” he added. He also said that a solution can be reached if everyone, the Centre, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana government, come together putting politics aside.

A thick toxic layer of smog is persistent in Delhi and NCR since last few days. The Air Quality Index in the national capital and its nearby areas is swaying between 400-700 – ‘severe’ level.

CAT 2017: Few Tips You Need to Remember

New Delhi, Nov 9: The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2017 for admissions into Indian Institute of Management and other business schools is scheduled for November 26. Now that only a few days left for the exam, the candidates who are appearing for the CAT 2017 need to remember a few tips before they appear for the exam. The experts have always advised that the candidates should not start anything new before the exam but should just do mock tests and keep formulas at their fingertips.

Mock tests should be done with the exam time slot. This will help you in getting along with the time and complete your tests before time.

Do not read anything new. Leave all that you haven’t touched. Just keep practicing the topics that you have already prepared for. This will help you in clearing all the questions related to those topics. Do mock tests, analyse your results and improve. See what are your weak areas and work on them. Accuracy is extremely important.

The more you practice now, the more you will be able to crack the questions as fast as possible. Practicing repeatedly will help in increasing your speed and managing the time allotted for each section.

If you have practiced with exam time slot, it won’t be difficult for you to crack questions on the topics you know. Try to attempt all the questions that you think are easy, but make sure you are accurate. If you have read a topic well, it won’t take you much time crack those questions. Check them off your list and then move on to the other questions.

Also, you do not have to attempt all the questions. Focus on what you can do with the given time slot.

Don’t get hyper or tense or restless before your exam. Watch movies, listen to some soulful music or whatever you like to refresh yourself and calm yourself down. Relax, it is not a life exam.

No Plans to Leave Academics: Raghuram Rajan on AAP’s Rajya Sabha Seat Offer

New Delhi, November 9: Former Reserve Bank of India governor Raghuram Rajan on Wednesday declined Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s offer to become a member of the Rajya Sabha and said that he has no plans to leave academics.

“While Professor Rajan is engaged in a variety of educational activities in India, he has no plans to leave his full-time academic job at the University of Chicago,” Rajan’s office at the University of Chicago said, NDTV reported.

The Aam Aadmi Party has approached Rajan offering him a Rajya Sabha seat and might not nominate its own leaders to the Upper House. An AAP leader, who did not wish to be identified, said the party will not field any of its leaders for the three Rajya Sabha seats from Delhi that will fall vacant early 2018.

With its brute majority of 66 in the Delhi Legislative Assembly, a victory looks certain.

Apart from Rajan, the party is also looking for an eminent jurist and a known person from the field of social service for the other two seats, the leader said.

The move to not field any party leader to the Rajya Sabha is also seen as an attempt to put an end to the intra-party rivalry. Kumar Vishwas, who has aired his discontent against the leadership is known to be one of the strong contenders.

However, given his present equation with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal the chances of party sending to the Upper House him were slim.

Delhi sends three members to Rajya Sabha. Currently, the city-state is being represented by Janardan Dwivedi, Parvez Hashmi, Karan Singh, whose terms end in January 2018.

दिल्ली में स्मॉग ने बढ़ा दिया एयर प्यूरीफायर का बिजनेस
