#CBSE Class 12 results may be delayed as govt seeks legal view on grace marks

The announcement of CBSE’s Class 12 exam results may be affected as the Union HRD ministry decided on Wednesday to seek legal opinion on a Delhi high court order asking the board to continue with a marking policy that it recently decided to nix.

Sources said the government has sought legal opinion on the issue of moderation, a practice that CBSE decided to do away with from this year.

Moderation refers to manipulation of marks from the total score of students based factors such as difficulty levels in different sets of question papers.

The HC asked CBSE on Tuesday to continue with the policy for this year.

“Legal opinion is being sought on the issue and various options are being explored. Things will become clearer by the end of the day,” said a senior HRD official.

So far, the CBSE has maintained that the Class 12 results will not be delayed. The CBSE will announce its future course of action at around 5pm, a source said.

“All attempts are being made to ensure results are not delayed. But a number of states have already declared results without doing moderation so there is still confusion about the entire issue,” said a source.

Delhi: Girl dies as #DTC bus loses control, rams into traffic at Azadpur metro station

A girl was killed and at least half-a-dozen others were injured when a low-floor DTC bus lost control and rammed a group of public transport vehicles at Azadpur in north Delhi on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

A tyre burst is suspected to have caused the accident, said Milind Dumbere, DCP (North-west). The bus driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the accident spot, he added.

The accident happened outside the Azadpur metro station where a few e-rickshaws and auto-rickshaws were parked on the roadside.

According to the initial probe, the bus swerved towards the left, ramming two e-rickshaws and one auto. These three vehicles had a few passengers in them at the time of the accident.

Locals rushed to the spot and rescued those trapped in the mangled vehicles. There were a few passengers in the bus, it is yet to be ascertained how many of them were injured.

The DCP said his officers have informed him that a minor girl was brought dead to a nearby hospital. “We are yet to get an update from doctors on the others who were injured,” the DCP said.

With anger brewing among locals and commuters at the accident spot, a police team was deployed to prevent breakdown of law and order.
