Delhi: Five men arrested for ‘raping’ 30-yr-old in Pandav Nagar

Delhi Police on Sunday arrested five men, including an engineer, for allegedly raping a 30-year-old woman in east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar. The woman told police that the men had locked her in a flat and took turns to rape her from Saturday night till early Sunday morning. In a bid to escape, the woman reportedly jumped off from the balcony of the first floor flat and suffered minor injuries.

Smoking in public places can land you in a spot

More than 700 people issued challans since drive launched in Feb.

New Delhi: Next time you wish to light a cigarette in a public place in the national capital, think twice. You could well be issued a challan by the Delhi police that has launched an anti-smoking campaign under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA). More than 700 people have been issued challans for smoking in public places since the drive was launched in mid-February. The Delhi police is issuing challans directly for the first time under COTPA which prohibits smoking in public places, sale of tobacco products to minors, and sale of tobacco products within 100 yards of educational institutions.

The crime branch team has also issued notices to media channels and the local police in the matter.

New Delhi: In an alleged violence case at the Ramjas College, the Delhi police’s probing team has recorded the statement of over 17 students and teachers and is likely to complete its investigation by the end of this month. The 17 people spoken to so far by the Crime Branch team include teachers from the faculty of Arts and the Delhi School of Economics. Students from St Stephen’s College and Deshbandhu College have also been spoken to by the probe team. Another team, set up by Delhi police commissioner Amulya Patnaik following the National Human Rights Commission’s notice over allegations of "police excesses," is probing the matter simultaneously.
