Minimum Wages Bill: #Delhi LG Anil Baijal clears 37 pct hike in workers’ pay

Anil Baijal, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi has given his approval to the Minimum Wages Bill on Friday. This decision of the LG comes after the approval of 37-per cent hike in the minimum wages for unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled persons in the national capital by the Arvind Kerjriwal government. The unskilled labourers that earlier used to get Rs 9,724 for their work will now get Rs 13,350, where as the semi-skilled labourers will now be paid Rs 14,698 instead of Rs 10,764 and the skilled labourers will get Rs 16,182 instead of Rs Rs 11,830.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has given approval to Minimum Wages Bill on Friday, as reported by news agency ANI. This development comes close on the heels of Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government’s decision to approve around 37-per cent hike in the minimum wages for unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled persons in the national capital. After the Delhi government’s approval, the minimum wages for unskilled labour will increase from Rs 9,724 to Rs 13,350. Wages for semi-skilled labour will be up from Rs 10,764 to Rs 14,698 while those for skilled labour will rise from Rs 11,830 to Rs 16,182.

Dacoity-cum-murder case: 4 awarded life imprisonment

A Delhi court has sentenced four persons, including a woman, to life imprisonment for murdering a 70-year-old retired Income Tax officer while committing dacoity in her house. The court said huge amount of gold and diamond jewellery of the victim was recovered from the possession of the four convicts who had entered the house on the pretext of taking away an old sofa sold by the woman to her maid, a co-convict.

From Major Som Nath Sharma the first recipient of the Param Vir Chakra who laid down his life in the 1948 Indo-Pak War at the age of 24, 2/Lt Arun Khetarpal at 21 – and then who can forget Captain Saurabh Kalia, Captain Vijayant Thapar and Captain Vikram Batra – all a few years older than you are today.
